Custom Injection Molding

Mechanical Power specializes in eliminating the hassle from global sourcing of industrial products for our OEM customers. We can help your company source any product needed from a variety of different manufacturers around the world. Most of the power transmission products we source, such as roller bearings, sprockets, gears, and chains, are traditionally made from metals.

However, there has been a tremendous increase in these products being made from plastics as the performance attributes of plastic molded parts continue to improve.

Injection molding remains the most common modern method for manufacturing plastic products, ideal for producing high volumes while maintaining tight quality tolerances.

Injection Molding Process

The process begins with thermoplastic resin pellets, which are heated into a molten form and then forced into a mold cavity using a ram or screw-type plunger. Molds can be a single cavity or multiple cavities, each capable of being similar or different from each other.

A mold generally needs to be separated (or opened) at the end of the process, which commonly results in parting lines, gate marks, and ejector pin marks on the final part. These natural results of the injection molding process can be minimized or eliminated through skillful mold creation or secondary operations.

Advantages of Plastic Molded Parts

Lightweight and Durable

Plastic molded parts offer significant weight reduction compared to metal parts while still maintaining durability and strength. This makes them ideal for applications where weight savings are crucial.

Cost-Effective

The injection molding process allows for the mass production of parts at a relatively low cost per unit, making it an economical choice for high-volume production runs.

Versatile Design Options

Plastic molding offers greater design flexibility, enabling the creation of complex shapes and intricate details that might be challenging or impossible with metal parts.

Improved Performance

Advances in plastic materials have led to improved performance characteristics, including resistance to corrosion, chemicals, and impact. This makes plastic parts suitable for a wide range of demanding applications.

Sustainability

Many modern plastics are recyclable, and the injection molding process generates minimal waste, making it an environmentally friendly option.
